Alice's Adventures in Wonderland... My take
Here's my take on the Alice's Adventures in Wonderland Book by Lewis Carroll. It was a project my final assessment for Uni. Alice's Adventures is such a classic book which stays in everyone's heart. So for this I decided to keep the classic aspect of it and the worn and handed down through generations feel of it. I decided not to give it "the wacky approach" as many do because yes the story is wacky but also the story becomes personal childhood memory to readers.
Idea: Your going to be the death of me
I smoke to much and I sure know it...but I sometimes get my best ideas when I'm having a cigarette break. While I was having one today I had an idea... The name: Your going to be the death of me and it's going to be typographic. Not going to tell you exactly what it is going to be... but here's a clue

What every typographer needs in their life
This is what every typographer needs in his/her life. I found this while at work while on a break the other day and I was blown away. It an iphone app called " The typography manual" and its amazing. It has so much you really don't know where to start. It has a section of the history of typography, basics of type, typesetting, style guide and sooo much more.
However, in my view the best part is the resources part of this app. Have you ever thought that some type would be legible once you have printed it out and once it is printed you realised it isn't? Well say goodbye to that because with that it has a font size ruler so you can see what the font size would look like in real time. It also has other amazing features like mac keyboard shortcuts and a section for specimens of typefaces.
However, this is only a small part of the app that I explained. I would be here forever if I did go into everything. So if your into typography, got an iphone a spare £2.39 in your pocket definitely get this app, you will be pleased with it...
Neutrality is a bitch
From doing the unstamped magazine, I soon realised that trying to make something absolutely neutral is a bitch and almost impossible. In this day and age everything has such a strong meaning and linked mentally by so many things. From the beginning of the project I wanted to make the magazine 100%. I tried so many approaches but it was such a struggle. To be honest I still don't believe that it's totally neutral but it's the best I could possibly do. So the big question: Is there such thing as neutral anymore. I used helvetica as it has such a range of uses and you see it's nearly everywhere that this causes a reverse as this makes it more neutral than other typefaces. It's seen so much that it's becoming invisible, but does that make it neutral? What exactly is neutral and how is it achieved
The Helvetica within taking over
This is some work of mine that I did for my final degree. It's a magazine for unsigned acts but it is suppose to visually look neutral so that the bands get no branding or image throughout the magazine. This is because everybody knows that an unsigned band is trying to portray a good image and nobody wants a bad image. Therefore the magazine will notify their audience about themselves however no image included because that's the bands job to set the right image for themselves.
